Composite laminates in solidworks bend around anything!

Tuesday January 29, 2013 at 5:54pm
Previous to SolidWorks 2011 modelling carbon fibre in SolidWorks Simulation was pretty limited.  Practically, if the component was anthing other than flat, fibres weren't able to follow the contours of the surface!

Since then, model laminated materials with a fibre direction is much improved!  There is now an option to do "surface mapping."  It works similar to how decals can be applied and allows the composite to follows the contours of the surface in almost any direction you like!

See how they follow this crazy surface model below!
