The recent models of mobile workstations (laptops) for CAD applications are shipped with a battery optimizer called "
Switchable Graphics" which aims to run your machine on the less power hungry on-board Intel graphics card rather than the dedicated higher end NVIDIA or ATI card. As SolidWorks is a very graphical application, this automated switch can degrade performance and lead to instability in the software. As a result we advise you disable the switchable graphics option, shipped with your laptop. This may not be an option on all laptops but the instructions in the video below should allow you to investigate whether the setting is available for your laptop model. Note this video was performed on a Dell Precision laptop, other suppliers may have a slightly different route into the BIOS menu.
