Printing the Iron Throne

Monday May 20, 2019 at 2:57pm
With the final episode of Game of Thrones airing tonight we've had the Iron Throne on our minds a lot lately. So much so that we decided to print our own Iron Throne phone stand! Read on to see how.

The first step was to 3D printing anything is acquiring the CAD data. For this print we took the easy option and downloaded it from thingiverse. If you want to know where exactly to find the file or how to ensure your file is set up effectively for printing then contact us at support@solidprint3d.co.uk

We decided to print this model using our Raise3D Pro2Plus, so after downloading the file we imported it into ideamaker, Raise3D's slicing software.

As the model has a large rectangular base we increased the Z position of it slightly, this causes the software to automatically add a layer of support material. This helped minimize the risk of damaging the component when separating it from the build plate.

We also added blue painters tape as the adhesive Buildtak on the build plate may cause this part to be difficult to remove due to the large base of this model.

Finally we sliced using a default profile for PLA, and the preview was used to confirm the position of Supports, which is very minimal in this model due to the majority being sturdy and self supporting...

As expected from the Iron Throne.
